U-Pick Pears.

Before You Pick: Pricing & Admission

Orchard Admission: $2 per person

(Children under 10: FREE ORCHARD ADMISSION)
U-Pick Pears: $1.50 per pound

Every customer entering the U-Pick orchard is required to pay the $2 admission fee. When you pay admission, we’ll stamp your hand so you can leave and reenter the orchard during your visit without paying admission again.

All U-Pick pears are $1.50 per pound. When you finish picking, bring your pears back to the barn, where we’ll weigh them and calculate your total.

Don't want to pick your own? We've got you covered! Pre-picked Asian pears are available at the farm store.

Half-Bushel Box (approx. 30 lbs.) — $45

Smaller bagged quantities are also available. Simply choose what you'd like and we'll weigh your pears at checkout.

Varieties and availability may change throughout the season.

Come Prepared for the Farm.

Pilot Mountain Pears is a working farm, so dress accordingly! We strongly recommend wearing tennis shoes, boots, or other comfortable closed-toe shoes. The orchard has natural, uneven ground, and conditions may be dusty, muddy, or wet depending on the weather.

Depending on the weather, you may also want to bring:

Sunscreen
A hat and sunglasses
Bug spray
Comfortable clothes that can get a little dirty

Please check the weather before your visit. U-Pick is an outdoor activity, and there is limited shade once you are out in the orchard.

Step 1. Gear Up

When you arrive, grab a picking box, wagon, and picking pole and head out into the orchard.

Picking poles are provided to help you reach pears growing higher in the trees. Please use the equipment as intended and never climb, shake, or pull on our pear trees.

Remember that you’re walking through a working orchard. Watch your step on uneven ground and please keep children with you and supervised at all times.

Step 2. Pick Some Pears!

Follow the signs directing you to the designated U-Pick areas that are open for picking that day. Please stay within these areas, as fruit elsewhere in the orchard may not be ready for harvest.

Pears naturally grow in all different shapes and sizes, and they’re all equally delicious! Some of the largest pears are often found higher in the trees and out of reach, so don’t forget to look up! Use one of our picking poles to carefully reach fruit growing on the upper branches.

Step 3. Weigh & Check Out

Once you’ve picked all the pears you want, bring your box and picking equipment back to the barn.

One of our team members will weigh your pears and calculate your total at $1.50 per pound. All of our scales are certified by the North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services.

Once you’ve checked out, your freshly picked pears are ready to take home and enjoy!

Orchard Rules

Pilot Mountain Pears is a working commercial orchard. Federal food-safety regulations require us to take precautions to help prevent contamination of produce intended for sale.

To help us keep our orchard clean, safe, and enjoyable for everyone, please follow these rules while inside the orchard:

Do not eat or drink inside the orchard rows.
Do not bring pets into the orchard rows.
Do not climb or shake the trees.
Do not pull on or break branches.
Do not throw or leave picked fruit on the ground.
Only pick fruit you intend to purchase.
Keep children supervised at all times.
Stay within the designated U-Pick areas.
Follow all posted signs and instructions from our farm staff.

There are designated areas elsewhere on the farm where you are welcome to eat, drink, picnic, and spend time with any furry friends you’ve brought along.
